Langwost in the USA As far as we know, three Langwost migrated to the USA:
- Between 1875 and 1888, Ernst Langwost, shoemaker, migrated - Around the same time, Friedrich Langwost, Ernst’s brother, brick layer, migrated too. - In 1923, Herbert Theodor Langwost, engineer, migrated.
Ernst Langwost had 3 sons living in the USA. We don’t have any information about him or his brother’s family. Between 1978 and 1996, George, Gladys and Marie Langwost died in Illinois. Maybe they are descendants of the two Langwost
brothers? On May 26th 1923, Herbert Theodor took the SS “President Harding”
in Bremen. On June 4th the ship arrived in New York. According to the “list of manifest of alien passengers for the united states immigration officer at port of arrival”, he wanted to visit his “Uncle Wilhelm Buhrig in New York City”. Mainly, his father Heinrich sent him to the USA to avoid the troubles in Germany at that time. Also he was sent mainly to an uncle Friedrich rather than to Buhrig. Herbert had difficulty at first because he couldn't speak english but he was able to make a good life for his family.
Herbert Theodor lived, together with his wife Hedwig (Heddy), in Suffolk, New York. In the late 1950, they were visiting Germany again. This picture shows Herbert Theodor and his son Craig-Henry together with Hermann Langwost
and his family and other relatives: |
